Achievements

We are first indigenous Disable People Organization founded by a group of Somali professionals who felt that PwDs needed value-based abilities to cope with life’s challenges in Somalia context. We Believe that if PWDs are Empowered with Skills, they can make the right choices through Situational Analysis, Critical Thinking and making Informed Decisions thereby reducing their vulnerability. Some of our achievements are:

  • Provide relief Aid to victims of climate change including those with disabilities where we drilled bore holes, provided water, food and nonfood items and medical Aid.
  •  DAF has donated three ambulances to support medical treatment at Madina School.
  •  We have provided scholarship to CwDs.
  •  DAF has also organized seasonal and special porgrams i.e the meals during Ramadan to families of person with disabilities.
  •  In Education we provided technical support to ADRA Somalia a lading agency on education in teaching methods of Children with Special Needs.
  •  We have conducted awareness programs on disability inclusive development.
  •  We support the access of CwDs in education with more focus on the girl child
  •  We enrolled 1200 GWDs to primary school under LNGB AGES project in Juballand state, south-west state and Banadir.
  •  We provided scholarship opportunities to seven (7) children with visual impairment who are currently studying in south-Africa.
  • Through partnership and fundraising, DAF is supporting Al Basiir school for the blind in Mogadishu- (Boarding school with 47 students)
  • In Education we provided technical support to ADRA Somalia a lading agency on education in teaching methods of Children with Special Needs.
  • Through the existing Area of Responsibilities coordination mechanism (AOR), DAF has managed to do awareness raising on GBV and child protection referral pathway to ensure survivors of sexual violence get services in a timely and ethical manner.
  •  Courtesy of a project with Abilis foundation we had series of TOT for the CBOs with and outcome of increased knowledge on their rights and the rights of disabled women and girls as well I as on how to promote and protect them.
  • Through our Braille Printing press, have produced accessible format books for virtually impaired leaners in Secondary level schools and universities which is a big step in creating an inclusive education environment in mainstream classrooms. We also produce sign language books for the ear-impaired students.
