Our program
Health Care Program
This programme aims at transforming the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and other vulnerable persons through increasing awareness, offering technical support and training on rehabilitation and care. DAF focuses on rehabilitation and care programs through Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach to enable inclusion and participation for persons with disability (PwDs). Our commitment is to promote self representation, participation, equality of opportunities and integration of persons with disabilities in the society. This is because our understanding of disability is in accordance with the social model, which notes that barriers are caused by society, rather than by a person’s disability. We ensure that the vulnerable groups we serve are appropriately rehabilitated through various interventions including and not limited to requisite healthcare and psychosocial support. Our interventions are informed by screening and assessment processes that we undertake in close coordination with the families and technical experts as institutions as may be necessary. In the provision of social rehabilitation services for people with disabilities, their family members, carers, the elderly and people living on their own who have disabilities, referral mechanisms have been adopted. DAF also promotes attainment of maximum independence: In view of the fact that PwDs need to be independent as much as possible, DAF has a consistent and procedural plan to not only assess activities and instrumental activities of daily living among children/persons living with disabilities but also lay an elaborate plan for interventions towards their independence With the support of our partner One Life Global Welfare based in United Kingdom (UK), DAF has been using Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) approach to assist PwD and older person through community outreach awareness and rehabilitation initiative. In Somalia, PwDs and older persons are most vulnerable. We use CBR approach since it enables inclusion and participation for disable people in Somalia context. Our work in Rehabilitation and Care Programme an interagency referrals framework informed by CBR approach to ensure that the mapped clients receive health, psychosocial support and assessment. Importantly DAF also identifies, rehabilitate and enhance family-based support through training and technical support.
